We all know that foiling in general has become hugely popular in recent years. Wind foiling, kite foiling, SUP foiling, wing foiling, prone foiling, e-foiling… and foil assist too.
Foil assist is a form of prone foiling, also known as “surf foiling”, in which the surfer uses a propeller to build up speed and simply rides waves or
You can ride the swell using wave energy alone. Because the motor with its propellers is positioned just below the board (unlike in e-foiling, where the motor is at the bottom of the foil and remains submerged at all times), the board lifts onto the foil and the motor rises above the water, so that from that point onwards, propulsion is achieved purely via the foil, hence the name “foil assist”.
The motor is controlled via the remote control you hold in your hand, which allows you to adjust the speed. The boards themselves have also undergone extensive refinement in recent years to minimise “draft” as much as possible: for example, the battery is now concealed in a “trench” at the bottom of the board, and the fin boxes extend right to the very back, making it much easier to change the battery
Together with An overview, located at 300A Zeedijk in Duinbergen, and a distributor of Foildrive and Xsurf foilboards, we have a test centre at Surfers Paradise where both the boards and the Foildrive can be tested.
So, if you want to be sure you’ve got the right material in mind before you buy anything, get in touch with Laurent at L’apercu and pop into the reception at
Surfers Paradise, where you can try out a set.
