Jack O'Neill Day

Jack O'Neill Day

On 9 July, we commemorate Jack O'Neill, who in 1952 invented the wetsuit, which enabled water sports enthusiasts from all over the world to resist the cold water for longer.

Jack passed away in 2017, still living in his legendary house at the cliffs in Santa Cruz California, overlooking the surf spots.
From his house, you could literally dive into the waves.
Paddle outs take place all over the world, including on 9 July at 13.00 at Surfers Paradise.

Participation is completely free, everyone is welcome. The intention is that the surfers, sitting on their boards, form a large circle and a small ceremony takes place. It is best to come half an hour beforehand to get ready, listen to the instructions and receive the flower petals for the ceremony.

Programme:
13:00/13:30 gathering (possibility of renting a surfboard, sup, kayak, wetsuit, etc.)
14:00 Paddle out
