Belgium’s Biggest Downwinder: 65 km along the Belgian coast. One mission.

Just imagine: you set off from De Panne, head for Zeebrugge and let the wind, waves and pure adrenaline carry you along for 65 kilometres. No lifts, no shortcuts. Just you, your kite and the entire Belgian coastline.

That is the Belgium’s Biggest Downwinder.

A unique challenge that’s not just about adventure, but also about something much bigger. With this first edition, we’re raising money for That's brilliant!, the organisation dedicated to promoting mental health among young people.

Each participant not only takes on a sporting challenge, but also commits to at least €150 to be raised for Te Gek!. Every euro goes directly to charity. What’s more, the top fundraisers stand a chance of winning great prizes.

Together, we’re showing that the kitesurfing community is strong not only on the water, but off it as well.

The challenge

Route: De Panne → Zeebrugge (approx. 65 km)
Optional stop-off: Ostend
Wind window: September – October 2026
Confirmation: 48 to 72 hours in advance, depending on the weather conditions
Maximum: 200 riders

When the perfect wind comes along, there’s only one chance. That’s when we set off.

Are you ready? – The Biggest Belgian Downwinder is a challenging event for experienced kitesurfers. That’s why we ask that every participant:

is at least 16 years old;
has been actively kitesurfing for at least 3 years;
can kitesurf for at least two hours non-stop;
is a member of a kite club affiliated to the WWSV;
material used that is no more than five years old;
is taking part with a buddy;
can safely return to the coast under their own steam if necessary.

Safety is always the top priority. That is why Offshore provides a professional safety organisation with boats, onshore support and close cooperation with the emergency services and the coastguard. Every rider is also issued with a compulsory high-visibility vest to ensure maximum visibility on the water.
