50 years of windsurfing in Belgium suitably celebrated at Surfers Paradise

A beach filled with colourful sails and boards, a cosy BBQ, a live performance by Surfer Joe and some 300 windsurfers who had come from far and wide to resurrect days gone by.

Some had brought their own equipment back to exhibit, others brought photos and even surf magazines from the heyday of windsurfing. Even the Royaux family of Marina Yachting Center from Ostend signed up to be present, they were the very first shop where the first windsurf boards passed over the Belgian counters 50 years ago. Duotone Benelux and Fly High Surfshop were present with their entire range of Boards and Sails 2025, and Inland Surfshop as distributor of Exocet, Loftsails, Unifiber, Gaastra, Tabou, JP-Australia, Neilpryde, Starboard and Severne.

There were windsurfers present who were no longer active, which is what half a century does to a person, and there were windsurfers who did get on the board regularly...or had become kitesurfers and/or wingsurfers in the meantime.

One fact is certain : the sea dog content was supreme along with a lot of strong saltwater stories. Nice that meetings took place between water sports people who had not seen each other for years.

After the Yugen Kombucha tasting, there was the Aper'Omer & Ypra'tief 0.4% during the BBQ afterwards, the typical "Pulp Fiction" sound of Surfer Joe was also much enjoyed. 50 years of windsurfing has not gone unnoticed !
