100 grommets on Surfers Paradise!

If Julius Caesar once said the Belgians were the very bravest of the Gauls he may not have had surfing grommets in mind.

However, on the annual fully booked growler day at Surfers Paradise, all the children braved the still cold sea water, high waves and a pounding northeast wind at high tide....

Assisted by a team of 10 instructors, the little ones on boogie boards and the slightly bigger ones on surfboards managed to ride their first waves.

A little hesitant at first, as the conditions were simply not ideal, but as time went on quite a few nice rides were made, and most held on for the full 2 hours.

Then it was time for ice cream and fruit as a snack and the unique Papa Chico Show.

Everyone was happy, including the numerous parents who enjoyed the spectacle from the beach and were of great help when putting on and taking off the wetsuits. For many children, it was their first time: young at heart, old school!

Next big date is for all the ladies at the annual Ladies Day on Sunday 25 June.
